Abstract:
On the basis of metrical, linguistic, stylistic and thematic criteria this paper argues that the frag. *545a Kn. of Euripides (as well as the related fragment 545 and possibly fragment 546) are spurious. The suggestion is made that these are not genuine fragments from tragedy, but rather the work of some Christianizing (?) aemulator Euripidis having as its subject “the good wife”. Apart from the matter of authorship, the paper provides an extensive commentary of fragment *545a, with particular emphasis on questions of textual criticism.
