Abstract:
In the dramatic place of Lemnos, in front of the double-mouthed cave, in which the exiled Philoctetes dwells, Neoptolemus creates his new consciousness as soon as he reinterprets the meaning of the prophecy, of the arrow and the wound, and acquires a new symbolic language with kerdos as a focal point. Around kerdos, Philoctetes also creates his new consciousness, gaining a new meaning of eusebeia while being healed of the merciless pain. The present article attempts to show how kerdos, being gradually assigned new interpretations, allows new symbolic meanings to emerge for the arrow, the wound and the prophecy, thus leading to the new meaning of eusebeia, which is the culmination of the notions that the tragedy of Philoctetes produces.
